Audio Two - What More Can I Say (throwback)

"Stop schemin', and lookin' hard"...Maybe the illest line ever spoken by an MC on the microphone. It described the times of it's release, the early 90's. 1990 to be exact. A time when gangsta's were ruling the west coast, mobsters were taking over NY and true B-Boys were left wondering exactly what has happened. Mc Milk (who just so happens to be MC Lyte's cousin) and DJ Gizmo made up the crew known for one of the most influential B-Boy anthems ever, "Top Billin'"! The single can still be heard at hip hop shows and gathering to this day no doubt. But, therein lies the issue at hand. What else have they offered the genre?
While it's evident in this music scene that "it only takes one hit", that's not the intentions of most MC's. It's actually something reserved for the more Vanilla Ice, M.C. Hammer and Biz Markie types. Unfortunately for Audio Two, they've got to be grouped along with them.
Although they're not known for an arsenic catalog of party hits, that doesn't mean these cats aren't to be considered dope. They are dope! Dope in the sense that they brought fun and essence to the mic and beats. Dope in the sense they inspired others (check Common & Mos Def's "The Questions" off the "Like Water For Chocolate" L.P. jocking the Audio Track "Questions"). Dope in the fact that they gave us a hot break track and bounced! Mission Accomplished!
I recommend this l.p. in it's entirety for two reasons.First, it's hard to find the "Top Billin'" single on wax or cd. Second, the album is actually very good. The production and lyrics are simple and yet stick with you. If you pop in this piece and let it ride for a day or two, you will add it to your favorite playlists. And if not, you'll at least bump Top Billin' because Milk is chillin', Giz is chillin' and what more can I say, Top Billin'!
